My family refers to me as the Ky Poodle Bear. My hair gets really long and really thick in the winter. I am also called a "hot mess". My hair becomes unmanageable and tangles really easy. I get trims inbetween fall and winter but it is mostly cutting off any dead ends and thinning my top knot (Floof). I do go in every couple of weeks to have my face and feet shaved. This helps to keep my feet healthy in the winter and my face in kissable shape.
If you remember, I was getting ready for the holiday season last time I got a full groom. I sure did get a lot of compliments from friends and family about how great my coat looked when they seen me around Christmas time.
My holiday haircut |
Emily, my groomer knows every bump I have. I have seborrhea cysts all over me. In a couple of months I will have them all cut off again but until then the best thing that ma can do is to keep me from licking them. My groomer also knows what I like and what I don't like. To me, this is very important. Emily makes sure she always rubs her hands over me before taking the clippers to my coat so she doesn't nick one of the bumps.
PetSmart was nice enough to send ma a gift card to pay for my groom. It was more than what ma would normally spend so we wanted ALL the bells and whistles. This poodle needed a spa day.
I needed to be pampered like a poodle should be !!
They don't call us high maintenance for nothing!
I got the Spring Top Dog addon package that included
- Premium shampoo & conditioner
- Teeth brushing & breath freshener
- Lemon, strawberry & daisy spritz
- Spring bandana & charm
We skipped the spritz and the bandana. I have a drawer of bandanas and the premium shampoo and conditioner smelled so good that I didn't need the spritz. My hair was so soft and manageable afterwards that I couldn't mess it up if I wanted to! I also got my nails done.
The salon used the CHI grooming shampoo and conditioner on me. I thought it was made for me because it has a poodle on the bottle. Since nobody told me any different , I will believe it was made for me.
Customers cannot go behind the double doors separating the Salon lobby from the grooming area. This is for the safety of the pets and associates. I am a service dog and ma couldn't go back there neither. It is not opened to the public. So you have to know ma had a big laugh when she got this photo of me.....
I hoped this didn't end up on Facebook! BOL! |
They unleashed my inner unicorn, too bad I couldn't poot rainbows. *giggle*
Ma really loves the convenience of me getting groomed at our PetSmart. She can make a appointment online, by phone or by walking in. There have been many times when we will be walking around the store and we will walk past the grooming salon to see how busy they are. If they are packed , we keep on walking but if there are only a few dogs in there, we will go in to say hello or to have my face and feet trimmed. Keeping my feet shaved helps my feet to stay healthy. In the winter I wear socks or boots if it snows but if it is muddy, ma can wash my feet quickly without all the hair getting muddy.
Is it getting chilly in here? |
I thought I was getting a grooming like I did at Christmas time. When I started to feel the air conditioning, I knew I was about to be a NAKEY POODLE!! YIPPEE!
Do I look happy?? I am! |
I felt better each swipe of the clippers. The cool air really felt good. The air made the areas of where my cysts are located feel much better. My groomer told ma that I had really been licking a few spots that you couldn't see without separating the fur to the skin. DogGone it! I thought I had hid those!
The bath really felt great. The smile and laughter I gave all the groomers was even better. Hey, I can rock a unicorn horn like you have never seen! I love giving smiles to people. It makes me feel good. Having my nails clipped is something I do NOT like. I prefer them to use a grinder on me. I get that at PetSmart.
Petsmart services help keep me feeling my best. I look forward to the summer with my hair all gone and feeling much cooler. Ma already made my next appointment for the end of next month.
She also likes the fact that PetSmart groomers have to go through many hours of training. All PetSmart salon associates acquire annual safety certification and take additional course to work where they learn about dog anatomy, signs of stress and common pet medical conditions. Their groomers (those that give haircuts) receive an additional 400 hours of hands-on training.
Reminder before having your pet groomed:
All pets need current rabies vaccinations and proof of vaccination from their vet. A Rabies tag is not enough proof. The rabies vaccination needs to be administered 48 hours prior to service.
Now that I am a NAKEY poodle, my baths take no time. I dry with a towel and don't have to use a blow dryer. If I get something on me, ma wipes it off with a wet rag. I can't tell you enough how good that feels!
The couple of cysts that I had been licking alot had a lot of matted hair. Emily took time to trim around them and made sure they were clean. Those spots have healed and are starting to dry up.
Grooming is good for me! I look like a new poodle. People have asked ma if I lost weight. She laughs and says I lost hair and grew my legs back. Ha ha ha
I will admit that I have much more energy. I don't have all the hair weighing me down. I also haven't licked my spots anymore. I wag my tail more and I am super quick when I run. My ear hair was shortened and my floof is under control.
Hey mom, the shampoo they used on me is on sale this week!! See the poodle? It was made just for ME cause I am a poodle.
* it can be used on any breed not just poodles*
A great thing about the #PetSmartGrooming salon
While ma was talking to Emily about what was done during my groom and the products that were used, there were pet parents picking up their pups.
We watched 3 people pick up their pets and not a one left a tip.
Ma always tips. She says the groomers provided us a service and it bothered ma that those pet parents didn't tip. People say tip your waiters/waitresses.
Ma says tip your groomers.
Now I need to up load some photos to PetSmart on Instagram
So what do you think? You think I look better than I did?

ReplyDeleteThank you for the beautiful springtime wishes. So far it has been beautiful and I think it helps that I FEEL beautiful.
DeletePoodles are the best dogs in the world but seriously I would not have paid for that groom. A correct topknot adds to a beautiful face like yours..a helmet not so much.
