In 1870, a county lawyer stood up in a courtroom in Warrensburg , Mo and gave a tribute to a dog who had been shot and killed. The dog was a well known hunting dog named Old Drum.
Old Drum had been shot and killed by a neighbor. The case was known as the Burden vs Hornsby. The judge filed in favor of Hornsby, who was the neighbor. The case was appealed many times.
After George Vest finished speaking to the jury , the jury and judge favored in Burden's favor and ultimately won the case.
The speech started out with "a dog is man's best friend"
A lovely tribute, Carma and so true how we are man's best friend.

We love that movie Old Drum! Makes us cry every time we see it, but we still love it. So glad to see it memorialized somewhere in a historical sign. Thank you for showing it!
